style spotlight: we heart our luxe satin and tulle flower

we love to layer texture, color, and detail to create beautiful works of art. our luxe satin and tulle flower is one of our favorite new styles that combines some of our favorite elements into one simple and elegant design. our inspiration came as we perused rows and rows of stunning ribbons in all the hues of the rainbow. we knew that we wanted to create something that let the eye-popping shine and rich color really stand out. to do this, we created a piece that is simple in design, layering the fabric with a stretch of our beloved bridal tulle, light and soft, with just a hint of color and texture to play against the ribbon and really let it stand out. softly gathering the layers, we carefully wind each piece into an elegant bloom. each one is a bit different in its beautiful form, paying homage to the handmade nature of each lovely piece. as we love to do, each piece is complete with the addition of a special centerpiece. for our custom bridal looks, we encourage our clients to find one of mom’s or grandma’s heirloom brooches or earrings, to bring “something old” into the special accessory. for our ready-to-wear pieces, we love to find the perfect vintage brooch, sparkly button, or special doodad to complete each work of art. we are creating our new favorite look in a variety of colors, sizes, and finishes for spring. swoon!

romance wednesday: we heart grace kelly’s wedding look

grace_kelly_style_inspiration

grace kelly is an icon of glamour, elegance, and old hollywood magic. she was a beautifully poised actress, and she ruled the silver screen in movies throughout the 1950s. she was always coiffed, lovely, and simply fabulous. elegant designer gowns were her go-to look; she was even close friends with iconic designer edith head. gorgeous accessories ruled, from her feminine gloves, to her glamorous sunglasses, and her Hermes bag; the ever-present designer handbag that she carried throughout the 50s, which of course was later coined “the kelly bag” in her honor. on april  19, 1956, she wed prince rainier of monaco in one of the most glamorous and memorable weddings of the 20th century. the wedding was a spectacularly elegant affair that married hollywood royalty with european nobility. the most memorable piece of the day of course was kelly’s stunning dress, a masterpiece by mgm designer helen rose (check out some of her stunning work here: http://www.coletterie.com/fashion-history/helen-rose). the creation was made of layers of silk taffeta, lace, and pearls, with a figure-flattering cinched waist, full bell skirt, sleeves, and dramatic high neckline. the look was complete with her lace-covered headpiece and elegant, lace-edged blusher veil. photos: http://life.time.com/culture/grace-kelly-prince-rainier-photos-from-the-wedding-of-the-century/#1

grace kelly’s wedding day style has intrigued us throughout the years, and over 50 years after her big day, her look still inspires weddings around the world. we all watched kate middleton‘s beautiful marriage to prince william of cambridge on april 29, 2011. her alexander mcqueen creation was simply stunning, and her full skirts and elegant lace sleeves were reminiscent of kelly’s sophistication and glamour. fashionista nicole richie wed rocker joel madden on december 11, 2010, in a stunning marchesa gown that called to kelly’s look with a dramatic lace bodice and sleeves and cinched waist, modernized with a full, billowing skirt made of countless layers of tulle fabric. socialite and designer ivanka trump was married to Jared Kushner on october 25, 2009, in an elegant vera wang gown. the stunning lace-overlay dress recalled kelly’s look in it’s dramatic sleeves and full skirts.

we heart indie wed

if you have never heard of it, then you are really missing out! it’s a totally groovy wedding show for unique brides and grooms looking for something different, special, and local for the big day. we had a blast there on sunday, in our lovely vintage dressing room-inspired booth, with our black lacquer armoire draped with dozens of elegant veils, headpieces, and frivolities. we met some beautiful couples and some awesome fellow local wedding vendors as well! the next show is february 2014… hope to see you there!

we heart vintage pieces turned new again

you know how much we love re-working stunning pieces into a fresh and modern piece for today’s bride… this is the story of an extra-special, unforgettable one!

a mom-of-the-bride gave us a call with a very special request- turn her stunning heirloom, a crystal-encrusted belt from her big day, into a headpiece for her daughter’s upcoming nuptials.

the belt was stunning, hand-detailed with countless little sparkly wonders – crystals and sequins and beads, oh my! we snapped a few before photos of the belt…

belt

it was almost tear-enducing cutting up such a spectacular piece of art, but her idea of creating a custom comb was just fabulous.

we created a headpiece using a small section of the belt. but for the big day, a veil too was in order. we created a ruffled pencil edge veil, but rather than affixing it directly to the headpiece that we created, we added a secret row of buttons on the underside. this way, after the wedding, she is now able to remove the veil and wear the stunning comb again and again as a reminder of her special day!

veil

wasn’t she absolutely stunning? so romantic!

special credit to Jolie Images for their shots of the lovely bride and of the lovely couple.

we heart audrey hepburn

Image

she was a beautiful, poised, elegant… and absolutely irresistible. she would have been 84 saturday, may 4. her presence and energy are still stunningly alive, not only in her films but in the example she set in her dedication to saving children through her work with UNICEF (http://www.audreyhepburn.com/)

she was as kind as she was glamorous and beautiful, and that is the most fabulous thing of all!

as for her films, my favorites are Roman Holiday, Sabrina, My Fair Lady, and of course, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Can you imagine anyone else playing the feisty, fabulous, sexy, yet vulnerable Holly Golightly?

we heart unique projects

it’s pretty much a dream come true. someone gives us a call, tells me that her recently-married friend gave her my name and a rave review, and states that she wants something “unique and different.” step right up!

Image

unique, indeed! a traditional veil, but with color and floral accent… love! she wanted to edge her

wrist-length veil with a soft but rich purple to tie in the color of her bridesmaids dresses, and we

found the perfect hue in this soft tone reminiscent of spring-blooming lilacs. lilies of the valley

are a flower dear to the bride’s heart, and both bride and mom searched high and low for the

perfect ones to adorn her hair. we used a few sprigs of the precious bloom to complete the

very special and stunning veil.

i love the way the piece turned out. can’t wait to post lovely pics of the bride in her finery!
