color theory: we heart our new Essie polishes

every year, essie surprises us with a great collection of seasonal polishes. Available at Ulta, their sampler of 4 mini polishes in their 2013 collection is a great set that includes Shearling Darling (a rich, deep plummy red), Mind Your Mittens (a rich, not-quite-black denim bite) Toggle to the Top (a shimmery red, full of sparkle and shine) and Sable Collar (a shimmering, warm chocolate brown).

It’s hard to choose a favorite, but we started with Mind Your Mittens, thinking that the deep blue would be fun for holidays, and look great with all of our bright reds and purples in our favorite holiday outfits.

In typical Essie fashion, it went on smooth as silk, and has great color and shine. Can’t wait to see how it looks over our Christmas Holiday!

we heart vintage pieces turned new again

you know how much we love re-working stunning pieces into a fresh and modern piece for today’s bride… this is the story of an extra-special, unforgettable one!

a mom-of-the-bride gave us a call with a very special request- turn her stunning heirloom, a crystal-encrusted belt from her big day, into a headpiece for her daughter’s upcoming nuptials.

the belt was stunning, hand-detailed with countless little sparkly wonders – crystals and sequins and beads, oh my! we snapped a few before photos of the belt…

belt

it was almost tear-enducing cutting up such a spectacular piece of art, but her idea of creating a custom comb was just fabulous.

we created a headpiece using a small section of the belt. but for the big day, a veil too was in order. we created a ruffled pencil edge veil, but rather than affixing it directly to the headpiece that we created, we added a secret row of buttons on the underside. this way, after the wedding, she is now able to remove the veil and wear the stunning comb again and again as a reminder of her special day!

wasn’t she absolutely stunning? so romantic!

special credit to Jolie Images for their shots of the lovely bride and of the lovely couple.

we heart awesome girl rockers

that’s a general rule for me, actually. more specific and more recent, though: i was invited to a concert last sunday with a couple of friends to check out an “amazing” singer at the groovy Schuba’s Tavern here in Chi-town. amazing doesn’t begin to describe it. said singer goes by the name LindiIMG_20130219_233246 Ortega, and she is unbelievable! great energy, beautiful music, and a killer voice- think Johnny Cash-meets-Patsy Cline-with a-Dolly Parton twang. seriously.

the best part- the adorable Lindi loves to sport cutesy feathered headpieces and such (thanks to my friend for letting me know that before the show), and i brought a little something to give to her! got the chance to say hi as she headed off the stage at the end of the show, and gave her one of my fave little feathered headpieces.

here’s a pic of the piece.¬†how fabulous would it be if we see her sporting it one of these days!?IMG_20130210_233231

we heart fabulous photo shoots

we were so excited when we were asked to take part in a gorgeous wedding-themed shoot back in september! we are pretty much obsessed with these photos, and were so thrilled to work with some of the awesomest fellow wedding vendors around Chicago. our faves: Husar Photography (http://husarphotography.com/) set the whole thing up and captured the magic; the bride wore a gorgeous Jenny Yoo dress (http://www.jennyyoo.com/splash.html);and the sparkles were all Erin Gallagher Jewelry (http://egjewelry.com/).

here are some of our favorite shots…these make us yearn for gorgeous spring weddings!!!
